Shivalik-class

Stable

The three-ship class remains operational, with INS Sahyadri completing a major Indo-Pacific deployment in November 2025.

On 27 November 2025, INS Sahyadri reached Manila after exercising with the Philippine Navy during a long-range Indo-Pacific deployment. The same deployment included Malabar at Guam, JAIMEX with Japan, the inaugural India-Republic of Korea Navy bilateral exercise and a Malaysian port call. Project 17 comprises INS Shivalik, INS Satpura and INS Sahyadri, commissioned between April 2010 and July 2012, with roughly 5,000 nautical miles of range at 18 knots and facilities for two helicopters. For India, these mature frigates continue to sustain Eastern Fleet presence and interoperability from the Indian Ocean through the South China Sea and western Pacific while Project 17A expands the fleet.
