Talwar-class

Ongoing

INS Trikand completed a Gulf of Aden anti-piracy response on 2 July 2026; eight family ships are commissioned and two Goa-built follow-ons remain under construction.

On 2 July 2026, INS Trikand boarded and sanitised MV Golden Arsenal after a piracy attempt approximately 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti, allowing its 21 crew members to leave the citadel and the ship to resume its voyage. On 29 June, INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak concluded a Port Victoria call after participating in Seychelles' National Day and Golden Jubilee engagements. India had signed a ₹2,182 crore VL-Shtil missile and holding-frame package for the four follow-on frigates on 3 March 2026. With INS Tushil commissioned on 9 December 2024, INS Tamal delivered and commissioned on 1 July 2025, and two more ships being built at Goa Shipyard, the family supplies operational reach and escort capacity across the western Indian Ocean while Chinese and Pakistani naval activity grows.
